Philosophy
The Greek word “philosophy” can be broken down into “philos,” which is one of the words for love, and “sophia,” a word for wisdom. So, by definition philosophy can be described as the pursuit or love for wisdom.
It could be understood as a way of questioning the abstract matters in life and attempting to define these in terms which are generally understood by others.
Usually philosophy is further categorized into
- Metaphysics (theory of being)
- Epistemology (theory of knowledge)
- Axiology (theory of value)
Most subjects in philosophy reduce to one of these general categories.
